01Brief
Mentorship organizations get squeezed from two directions: they need volunteers, and they need donors, and the two asks pull in different directions. Recruiting creative wants urgency and simplicity. Donor creative wants depth and long-term impact. Sitting on top of both is a duty of care to the actual young people whose stories anchor everything.
02Approach
- 01Framed the creative platform around the mentoring relationship itself, not the volunteer application form or the donation button - both of which follow when the story lands
- 02Built donor-facing materials that gave the organization a longer-form way to talk about impact, distinct from the shorter recruitment pieces
- 03Directed photography and video with families and mentors on their terms - consent, comfort, context - not on the schedule of a shoot day
- 04Wrote the messaging framework the local chapters could adapt for their own community without breaking the through-line
- 05Ran the annual campaign creative across print, digital, event and executive channels so the story stayed consistent as it moved between audiences
- 06Coached the internal team on the editorial judgment that youth-facing charity work asks of you - what to include, what to leave out, whose voice leads
03Outcomes
- A campaign platform that served both volunteer recruitment and donor engagement without either audience feeling like an afterthought
- Stronger, more dignified storytelling about the mentoring relationship itself
- Local chapters that could take the platform and speak in their own community's voice without breaking the brand
- A published editorial standard for youth-facing charity storytelling that outlasted the campaign cycle
